The Arkansas River
Trail - The Arkansas River Trail for
pedestrians and bicyclists loops along the north and south
shores of the Arkansas River in the metro area.
Approximately 24 miles long, the trail runs from the Little
Rock River Market District on the east to The Big Dam Bridge
near I-430 on the west. In North Little Rock, the trail
leads past beautiful views of the Little Rock skyline, the
old Big Rock quarry, the manicured golf course and soccer
fields in Burns Park, and eventually through dense woods
where you can see everything from cardinals and wrens to
deer and armadillo as well as a variety of trees, shrubs and
wildflowers, and finally to
The Big Dam Bridge that crosses the river and leads back
to Little Rock. From the BDB, one of the longest pedestrian
bridges in the world, you can enjoy beautiful views of
Pinnacle Mountain State Park. For a glimpse of the trail
first-hand, from the Peabody stroll across one of the river
bridges to discover the brick and concrete path leading to
the west along the North Shore. The Alltel Arena and the new
ball park are just a block or two north of the trail, along
with a number of little restaurants on Main Street. For a
cybertour of the Arkansas River Trail, go to the
Gallery page and select the various cameras on the map.
