Conference News - January 2007Celebrate
Gardening in the Natural State! Happy New Year! It is 2007 and that means there are only a few short months until the International Master Gardener Conference in Little Rock. We have had a wonderful response but have become aware that there are Master Gardeners in some states who have not received any information. We would appreciate state and province leaders forwarding this newsletter to all Master Gardeners in your area. If you are an individual MG who knows of other MGs who have not gotten our information, please forward this newsletter or just suggest that they phone us directly at 501-671-2174. Please remember your MG friends and acquaintances who do not have e-mail since that has been our primary means of communication. We look forward to having a top-notch conference and hope to have participants from many states and provinces. Registration: Early-bird registration closed January 1. We now have over 800 folks registered. Registration now through April 1 is $275. Registration information and applications can be downloaded from the website http://mg2007.uaex.edu. When you get to the website, click on the red words saying Registration Information and you can view the agenda, the speaker and tour info, and pre and post conference events. The final link is the online registration form. You can register on-line if you are paying by credit card, or print it out and mail it in with your check. If you have registered and need to cancel, let us know. Refunds will be given less a $25 fee prior to April 1, 2007. After April 1, registration closes and there will be no refunds. When you register on-line, you should receive an immediate confirmation from the convention center saying it has been received. Once they enter the data, you get an e-mail confirmation of what they have assigned you. In addition you should receive a packet from Arkansas State Parks with maps and visitor guides along with a “hard copy” of your registration information. Please review it and let us know if there are any errors. A few of the tours and seminars are full or nearly so. When they are full it will say sold out on the registration form. There have been questions about one-day tickets, individual meal and individual tour tickets. We want to make certain that everyone who wants to attend the entire conference gets registered, so we are waiting until March 1 to process partial reservations and/or meal requests for non-participant "guests". We will never offer individual tour tickets for spouses or guests. Spouses of MGs may register as full attendees. Accommodations: There is limited availability of rooms at our host hotel—the Peabody. As of today the main days—Wed and Thursday are booked solid, but cancellations might be made and rooms may open up down the road. They are taking a waiting list if you want to call the local number 501-906-4000. Make sure you say you are part of the IMGC. Arrangements have been made with the Doubletree Hotel which is a two-block walk from the conference center. Conference rates at the Doubletree-Little Rock are $119 for single or double (1 king or 2 double beds). When you call the toll-free number 1-800-937-2789, ask for the Doubletree-Little Rock and let them know you are with the International Master Gardener Conference. Further details on the hotel can be found at the Doubletree website: http://tinyurl.com/tsv9j Arrangements have also been made with the Holiday Inn Presidential. This hotel is not in easy-walking distance, but they do provide a free shuttle and we will offer shuttle service as well in the morning and in the evening only. The rate at the Holiday Inn Presidential is $89 for a double or single occupancy. For reservations please call 501-375-2100.
